Oneonta is a city in southern Otsego County, in the Appalachian region New York State. Nicknamed, "The City of the Hills," it has an area of a little over 4 square miles, and a population of just under 14,000.
Originally a town formed from the hamlet of Midfordville in the 19th century, Oneonta incorporated as a city in 1908. The word "Oneonta" comes from the Mohawk language, and is thought to mean "place of open rocks." It's a beautiful area perfect for prospective homeowners.
