Delaware County consists largely of adult professionals with families, with the median age being just under 48 years. The median income is around $26,000 for individuals, and $49,500 for households. The median home price is $195,000, or $119 per square foot—significantly lower than for New York State as a whole. Schools like Andes, Franklin and Margaretville Central Schools cover everything from elementary through high school, and are committed to providing children with quality education and a wide variety of extracurricular activities. Townsend Elementary School teaches children Kindergarten through 5th grade, and provides them with the tools and environment they need to become understanding and responsible citizens. Oneonta Middle School, teaching 6th through 8th grade, seeks to challenge and enrich students as they make the transition from childhood to adulthood. And Unatego Junior Senior High School includes an honor society and a skiing and snowboarding club.
There's also Delaware Special Education for students with special needs. Delhi also has SUNY Delhi, a State University of New York, which offers two year, four year, and graduate programs.
When it comes to progress and advancement, Delaware County is on the cutting edge, both in the manufacturing industry and in science and technical services—both of which are great sources of employment in the area. Healthcare also provides significant job opportunities in the county, particularly in the area of social assistance. And utilities, transportation, and warehousing, always have plenty of great, lucrative jobs available in the area.
Plenty of areas have baseball teams, but Delaware County has its own vintage "base ball" team. The Roxbury Nine are dedicated to playing the sport the way it was played in the 19th century. They play throughout the summer, and on Labor Day, they even have a Turn of the Century festival.
Roxbury also has Table to Farm tours. Visit a local farm, see the food they produce, and then enjoy a meal sourced directly from that farm. Being partially located in the Catskills, there's plenty of hiking and other outdoor activities in Delaware County. The Andes Rail Trail offers a hike along an old railroad bed. And Delaware Wild Forest has hiking along the Finger Lakes Trail, as well as camping, boating, fishing, and more.
