Not far from the bustle of New York City is a winter destination perfect for a frozen outdoor adventure. The rolling mountain landscape of the Catskills with its quiet villages, blanketed with snow and full of amazing winter recreation possibilities, is just a couple of hours away from the noise and traffic jams of the city. While the region is mostly rural, that doesn't mean it lacks the amenities to serve as a world-class destination for all things winter sports. Several perfectly appointed ski mountains dot the map: in Greene County, there's Windham Mountain Resort and Hunter Mountain; in Delaware County, the Plattekill Mountain ski resort; and Belleayre Ski Center in Ulster County. The Bull & Garland is an authentic English pub and inn located in Hobart, New York, a tiny rural village known as the "book village" for its eclectic collection of small book stores along Main Street. After opening its doors to the public last fall, the Bull & Garland has become another good reason to visit this corner of the Catskills: tasty traditional pub food in a cozy atmosphere has made the restaurant a smash hit for locals and a destination spot for visitors almost overnight. It's where you go to have a great time with friends around excellent food. Owners Melissa and Oliver lovingly renovated the historic 1830s inn that houses the bar and restaurant as well as three thoughtfully appointed rooms upstairs available for overnight stays. Beautiful touches of history have been preserved throughout: hand-carved wood beams, wide plank floors, dining room fireplace, and antique heirloom decorations and furniture. The pub serves traditional, consistently delicious English pub fare in...
