MUSIC IN THE MOUNTAINS These mountains are a very special place and a very special place for music. Hosting continuous summer chamber music festivals each year, the Maverick Concerts continue to honor centuries of world class music deep in the woods of the Catskills. Primarily hosted from the months of June, July and September, the programming offers Sunday chamber music concerts performed by renowned soloists and ensembles. Though through the recent seasons, Jazz and Contemporary music have played a significant role in the event as well. Arranged to impart unto the youth the power and wonder of various musical genres, the event is free for those 16 and under.  As a non-profit organization, this has been made possible with the help of the New York State Council on the Arts; the New York State Legislature; the Mavericks Concerts Endowment Fund; Friends of Maverick; the towns of Woodstock and Hurley; local business; individual donors and other public and private foundation. THE FESTIVAL SETTING The performances take place at the Maverick Music Hall, located in the outskirts of Woodstock, in Hurley, New York,  which was designated  by the National Register of Historic Places in 1999 and was awarded for Excellence in Historic Preservation by the Preservation League of New York State. The hall gives off that warm and welcoming feeling. Built by hand as part of the Maverick Colony in 1916, the barn-like building adds a rustic and sentimental feel to the music with a roof of wood shingles, frames forged from heavy timber and walls created from sheaths of wide planks nailed directly unto one another. Luminous lighting paired with the quiet of the surrounding forest bring additional intimacy to the performances. The 2019 season kicks off ARS Choralis on Saturday, June 22nd at 7pm. This chorus inspired by music of genius composers Bach, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Villa-Lobos and Pärt and will be followed by an exceptional summer of performances and special events including an evening with the Harlem Quartet, a concert and reception for Friends of Maverick on August 11th.
