The Farmers' Museum in Cooperstown opened its doors to the public in 1944 with over 5,000 tools and objects from New York's rural past in its collection. Today the museum's collections number more than 23,000 artifacts.

The museum is open from April to the end of October. Although the regular exhibits are closed for winter, the Museum still offers many special programs and events, especially during the holiday season.

The first of these event, Thanksgiving at the Farm, runs from November 26th to the 27th. The museum is the perfect setting to spend time with family and friends over the long holiday weekend. You'll find blacksmiths forging cooking utensils throughout the day inside the Peleg Field Blacksmith Shop. Smell the coffee being roasted inside Bump Tavern. Originally built in the late 1920s as the clubhouse for the once popular Rip Van Winkle Golf Course, Shandaken Inn has been welcoming guests to the northern Catskills for almost one hundred years.

Paying homage to the once famous Rip Van Winkle Club, Shandaken Inn's restaurant and bar is named after the original golf clubhouse. Legend has it that John Philip Sousa wrote the music to one of his many compositions on the back of the club's subscription card.
